On the Nye / Ham debate
It is the year Two Thousand Fourteen and we are debating creationism. We gave time, and thus implied credence, to an explanation that has already been proven wrong. We, as a collective, were excited for a debate that has already been scientifically settled.
People that supported Ham’s scripture-based pseudo-science are equal in blame to those who simply watched the debate. By watching the debate, you said, “this is something worth discussing, there are two valid sides here.” Which, is just not true - not at all, not one bit.
I’m not saying atheism is the truth or that religion is inherently false - this isn’t about faith, this is about knowledge. You can maintain your faith in a higher power, but you absolutely cannot reject the scientifically-proven age of the Earth or evolution. You cannot reject that which is known and proven and you should not give equal time to those who simply promote and spread ignorance, blatantly in the face of pure truth and fact.
You spent your time watching a scientist watching a science educator debate a man who believes another man built a boat and sailed a global flood with 2 of every animal on board. Think about that.
It’s 2014 and we’re still discussing whether dinosaurs are real or not.
